February 16, 2003 - Golden Bear Lodge Fire
At 300AM on Sunday morning Kenwood FPD along with several other local agencies was dispatched to a reported structure fire at the historic Golden Bear Lodge. The first on scene engine reported that the building was fully involved. Throughout the night engines and water tenders from Glen Ellen, Santa Rosa, Rincon Valley, Bennett Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Schell-Vista fire departments responded with mutual aid to the scene. (A sincere thank you for all your efforts.) Unfortunately and despite the best efforts by all firefighters and agencies involved the 6000sf structure was an almost total loss.

March 3, 2002 - Kenwood FPD Participates in Live Fire Training Exercise.
Schellville CA - Kenwood FPD and several other Sonoma Valley fire departments along with Napa and American Canyon fire departments conducted a two day live fire training exercise at the south end of the Sonoma Valley. Local winery owner and scion Sam Sebastiani graciously allowed us to conduct the exercise at a 3500 square foot house he owned that was scheduled for demolition. In short, we burned Sams house down. Thanks mucho Sam!

This two day exercise allowed firefighters to train under real life fire conditions and practice such skills as ventilation, search and rescue, RIT, hose stream control, pump operations, coordinated attack, and much more.

September 29, 2001 - Kenwood wins annual firemans water fights.

Sonoma CA. - The Kenwood waterfight team broke a thirteen year drought and walked away with the coveted championship trophy. The annual competition, held in conjunction with the Sonoma Harvest Festival, matched teams from several departments in the Sonoma Valley.

Firemans waterfights are played by stringing a large aluminum beer keg along a 100 foot steel cable. Each team, consisting of two hoses with three firefighters on each hose, attempts to advance the keg across the opponents goal line. If the keg or any part of the cable touches a firefighter or if a firefighter falls down it is counted as a foul against their team. Two team fouls scores a point to the opposing team. Scoring a goal is one point.

Some friendly waterfight action. Notice the barrel elevated about five feet off the ground. That's what can happen when it's getting hammered by four fire hoses producing water streams of 140psi each.

Other teams included Glen Ellen Fire Department, CDF (California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection), Mayacamas Fire Protection District, Eldridge Fire Department, Valley Of The Moon Fire Department, Sonoma Fire Department, and Shell-Vista Fire Department.
