Become an Explorer

The Kenwood Fire Protection District is the sponsor of Fire Explorer Post 31 and chartered with the Boy Scouts of America.

Kenwood Fire ExplorerUnder the watchful eye of qualified firefighter instructors, young adults are given the training and guidance needed to attain the level of skills required of today's fire service. They will learn the hard work, discipline, leadership and structured work environment that promotes safety and teamwork toward successfully completing a common objective. Explorers will also gain a sense of pride in working within and serving the community. Parents will witness the positive outcome of having their child enroll in this program.

Training consists of safety procedures, fire behavior, dragging hose, raising ladders, cutting handline, hose stream operations, search and rescue, emergency medical care, vehicle extrication, hazmat operations, and many other things most adults never get to see or do in their lives. They will also participate in community activities and fund raising activities.

The Explorers meet and train every Monday evening at 6:30PM at the fire station.

Many of our Explorers have gone on to become full time professional firefighters in their adult lives.
